The Bramcote SC Academy is a new programme launched in January 2017 to prepare talented young swimmers for club swimming. The Academy works alongside your child's existing swim school and sessions at the Academy are in addition to lessons at your child's swim school. If your child doesn't currently attend a swim school but is interested in joining the Academy, please get in touch to discuss the options.

The Bramcote Swimming Club Academy programme admits children aged 4-8 years. If your child is 7 years old or more and is confident and proficient in all 4 strokes, he/she may be eligible to join one of our main squads. For more information, please see our Squad Overview and read About Us.

Academy sessions run in the Main Pool at Bramcote Leisure Centre and at The Lenton Centre. All sessions are led by Swim England Level 2 qualified swimming teachers with support from other qualified teachers and poolside volunteers who are all fully DBS checked and have undergone safeguarding training, in line with SwimMark guidance. (SwimMark is Swim England's 'quality' mark).  All sessions are supervised by a qualified lifeguard.

Progression

When swimmers demonstrate the correct skills, they will be invited to join one of the Bramcote SC main squads, usually Skill Development 1, where they will continue to develop their skills and progress through the Skill Development Squads 2 and 3 .  Progression from BSC Academy to Development Squads is at the discretion of Academy teachers and the Development Squad coaches. For more information on the main squads, see our Squad Overview webpage. Swimmers do not move to main squads until they are at least 7 years old.

Organisation and timetable

For new swimmers who already swim in a swim school, swimmers are expected to have one lesson per week with their swim school in addition to the sessions outlined below.

We do offer a 'once a week' option in Academy Beginners and Academy 1 and 2 for swimmers who are members of another swim school. This enables swimmers to continue with their swim school lessons alongside the Academy, to ease them into club swimming.

Competitions

Swimmers have several opportunities to compete at the Academy. All BSC Academy swimmers are able to participate in the annual club championships. We also run badge galas and help to organise the annual Broxtowe trophy gala with the leisure centre swim school and other local clubs (for swimmers aged 8yr+). Swimmers in Squad Development are eligible to represent the club in competitions and are registered as Swim England Category 2 members.

Subscriptions

As a Swim England affiliated club, all club members must also join Swim England (this also provides insurance). There is an annual membership fee of £26 (£44 for Squad Development swimmers), paid once a year, on joining and each subsequent January to cover the cost of Swim England membership.

Monthly subscriptions to the BSC Academy are paid by standing order. For current rates, please see our Swimming Fees webpage.
